How You Can Use Fashion As Your Voice

Here we have a very brave, powerful woman & I'm here for it. Women wearing little clothing does NOT mean they are giving consent to anyone for sex, it doesn't mean they are sleeping around, and even if they are, so what?? We own our bodies and we shouldn't be degraded for loving sex. It is meant for pleasure. To me, a woman showing off her body through clothing means she is comfortable and confident in her own skin and I admire any woman who can strut the streets confidently in her favourite mini skirt. It's not for the enjoyment of men, it's not a green light for sex, it is simply a confident woman.

Not everyone owns a YouTube channel, is Instagram famous, or a global fanbase to raise awareness of something they're passionate about. That's why I'm here to tell all you fellow fashion lovers, that your microphone is right in front of you.

Your clothes can be your voice. You'd be surprised how big of a message you can send just by wearing a slogan tee with a powerful statement. Whether fashion is your forte or not, clothes can help you spread your message.

Another thing I want to highlight is the fact I grew up being embarrassed to embrace my culture and wear traditional clothing in westernised London, all because I wasn't represented in the media or toys - it led me, and millions of other ethnic girls to believe that we aren't beautiful, that we had to be fair with blue eyes, blonde hair & a small waist.

Now, we have lots of Instagram accounts for ethnic girls, such as @blm_opinionated, @browngirlmag, @brownbadnboujee and more. I urge every young girl from an ethnic minority to follow these accounts, it's important that you know that you are beautiful and you know your worth. So, to enforce this into your style, wear your traditional outfits with westernised clothing, wear a massive bindi with bride, wear the brightest dashiki you can find. It's like wearing a battle scar every single day, and call me dramatic, but we haven't exactly been treated equally.

So, let your style be as loud, as weird, as different as you want - stand out. It will irritate people but let that fuel you, not bring you down.
